Spiced Wine Poached Apples
Chef Dawn Ludwig
Nothing says Autumn quite like freshly picked apples cooked in a skillet, and spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg. Poached Apples are a seasonal treat that makes the perfect end to any cozy meal!

Cuisine American
- 4 medium apples, halved and cored
- ½ cup red wine
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- ½ tsp nutmeg
- dash of salt
- 4-6 prunes, optional
Cut the apples in half and remove the core. I like to use a small ice cream scoop to do this since it preserves as much of the flesh as possible. Then arrange the fruit cut-side up in a single layer in a shallow skillet. Pour wine over top so it covers the flesh of the apples. Sprinkle the spices over the fruit.
Bring to boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, or until apples are soft. Remove from heat. Serve warm. Makes 4 servings.
