Chef Dawn Ludwig
Nothing says Autumn quite like freshly picked apples cooked in a skillet, and spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg. Poached Apples are a seasonal treat that makes the perfect end to any cozy meal!

Ingredients

  • 4 medium apples, halved and cored
  • ½ cup red wine
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ½ tsp nutmeg
  • dash of salt
  • 4-6 prunes, optional

Instructions

  • Cut the apples in half and remove the core. I like to use a small ice cream scoop to do this since it preserves as much of the flesh as possible. Then arrange the fruit cut-side up in a single layer in a shallow skillet. Pour wine over top so it covers the flesh of the apples. Sprinkle the spices over the fruit.
  • Bring to boil over medium heat. Reduce the heat to medium-low, cover, and simmer for 10 to 15 minutes, or until apples are soft. Remove from heat. Serve warm. Makes 4 servings.
