“I have been obese my entire adult life and I have been overweight since I was 8 years old. I was able to lose some weight in the past through exercise and through reducing sugar intake, but I was never able to sustain it longer than 5 months. The amount of exercise required and the significant willpower needed to abstain from sugar would eventually exhaust me and I would give up. Inevitably, the weight would come back. I tried again one last time starting September 2015 to lose weight through exercise and managed to lose 15 lbs by December. By that time I was pregnant and dealing with the fatigue that goes with it. I miscarried December 20th and by the time I had fully recovered, 5 lbs had already come back. I thought I would never be able to attain the healthy body I wanted.
I read an article on Facebook about Always Hungry in February 2016. I immediately felt like a light had turned on. All my previous failures finally made sense and I went out to buy the book immediately. I cried reading the book because the science showed that my previous failures were NOT MY FAULT. Biology, the food industry, and poor nutritional advice were at fault. I was so eager to get started that I jumped in immediately. I admit, I probably missed a few things at first by skipping the prep week, but I just couldn’t wait!
I began losing weight and inches rapidly. Within three days all cravings for bread and sugar products were completely gone. My head was clearer than I could remember it ever being. I had so much energy I almost felt euphoric. My blood pressure returned to normal levels and my cholesterol leveled out to “perfect,” as my doctor described. Needless to say, I was sold for life.
I am now 27 weeks (over 6 months) into this plan and fully in phase 2. I have lost 40 lbs since starting, 9 inches around my waist, and 6 inches around my hips. I no longer have the double chin that was starting to show. I am now 10 weeks pregnant and am having the healthiest pregnancy of my life! Weight loss isn’t my focus now (though I have lost weight since becoming pregnant), but I will continue eating according to plan because it’s the healthiest possible diet for growing a baby. By eating according to the plan, I even have no morning sickness. The one time I ate pizza when I had no other options available I was horribly sick within 30 minutes and I dealt with morning sickness for the next 24 hours. A full day of eating according to plan, however, and I was back to normal the next day.
I feel younger and healthier at age 30 than I did even at age 23. I have no desire to stray and have adopted AH as my lifelong way of eating. I’m looking forward to the continued changes that eating well will bring!”
